As you probably know, today is 10th Bitcoin Pizza Day. What is it? It's the 10th anniversary of buying two pizzas for 10,000 Bitcoins.
The 10th Pizza Day
Why we remember and celebrate Pizza Day? First of all, pizza is one of the most delicious dishes that man invented. The second thing is to remind everyone about the main function of BTC - to pay for products and services with cryptocurrencies.
Today BTC is already seen as an asset and many say openly that in their eyes it is digital gold. Gold does not pay for bread, cheese, newspapers or, well, pizza. The same goes for the cryptocurrencies. However, it is worth recalling that BTC was ultimately supposed to pay for... everything.
2 Pizzas worth $91 millions now
It is worth remembering that in the first period of its existence, cryptocurrency was associated with alternative to fiat currencies.
Unfortunately, at the same time, in the first months of blockchain operation, BTC coins were not worth much. Only a madman could think that after 10 years for one digital coin someone would be able to pay as much as 10 000 USD.
Anyone who laughs at the main hero of this story today, Laszlo Hanyecz, who bought 2 Papa John's pizzas for the equivalent of 10 000 Bitcoins on May 22nd, 2010, must remember that at that time BTC was only a geek toy. Probably Laszlo thought that by buying two pizzas for 10,000 BTC, he was doing good business.
Today, 1 BTC on the stock exchanges costs 9 100 USD. This means that 10,000 BTC is worth $91 million. In other words, Laszlo ate two of the most expensive pizzas in world history! However, we are convinced that both were so tasty that it was all worth it!
