What Is Horizen?
Horizen is powered by the largest node infrastructure in the industry, enabling zero-knowledge interoperability through the Zendoo protocol, which uses SNARK-verification to verify the blockchain and allows for complete flexibility in sidechains, consensus, speed, and privacy. Cryptographic verification of networked chains offers massive scale, and the network currently supports up to 10,000 sidechains with a throughput limit of 10,000,000 TPS.
With Zendoo, Horizen becomes a permissionless network of blockchains that developers can deploy using a variety of SDKs. The first batch of SDKs is Blaze and Latus, which deploy blockchains based on IOHK's secure proof-of-stake protocol, Ouroboros. Blaze offers high-speed chains that can run up to 1,000 TPS, while Latus uses recursive SNARK composition for full decentralization. Next, the new SDKs will support Ethereum smart contracts thanks to the EVM integration.
Who are founders?
The founders of Horizen are Rob Viglione and Rolf Versluis.
Rob Viglione is the co-founder and CEO of Horizen Labs and co-founder and president of Zen Blockchain Foundation. He holds a Ph.D. in Finance, MBA in Finance and Marketing, and a Bachelor's in Physics and Applied Mathematics. Additionally, Rob has been an advisor to some of the most transformational blockchain projects globally, including Aave, and he previously worked as a scientist in the space industry.
Rolf Versluis is one of the founding members and leading advisors of the Zen Blockchain Foundation. He is an experienced entrepreneur in the IT industry, and he owns a mining company in the middle market.
Jane Lippencott, a member of the company's founding team and co-author of the initial whitepaper, is now a partner at a16z Crypto, the big venture firm's digital asset unit. She is formerly a Winklevoss Capital associate. Jane is a 2021 VC Cohort at All Rise, an advisor at Teller Finance, and a mentor at the Open Web Collective, as well as a mentor at Celo and Katapult Accelerator. She is a contributor at Nakamoto.com.
Features of Horizen
They offer a unique sidechain solution that enables developers to build their own scalable blockchains capable of supporting tens of thousands of transactions per second whilst maintaining true decentralization between thousands of nodes. Featuring a complete, zero-knowledge, decentralized blockchain ecosystem that is massively scalable and offers optional privacy features. Horizen has Zendoo, a sidechain system that enables thousands of independent sidechains to communicate with the mainchain.
Horizen is decentralized on the technical level and is moving towards being fully decentralized on the governance level with initiatives like Zen Improvement Proposals and the Horizen Community Council. Horizen uses the ZenIP process to standardize the process of suggesting major changes to the Horizen code base and ecosystem.
